Ahmed Mohammad, a 14-year-old teen gets arrested for building a digital clock with a pencil case. Being an engineer, the boy thought to invent something new and show it to his teacher at his school in Irving, Texas. But what happened here, surprised everyone!
Ahmed, instead of being appreciated was handed over to the police! What he invented was thought to be a fake bomb to scare the teacher. “I built a clock to impress my teacher but when I showed it to her, she thought it was a threat to her,” Ahmed told the reporters on Wednesday. A fourteen-year-old ended up not with praise but punishment! An extremely unfortunate situation. Officers say that the wires that were used to build the clock seemed like hoax bomb to them. In the picture taken of the boy, the boy is shown wearing the same Nasa T-shirt as he was wearing at the time of his arrest. The boy’s father said to the police that the issues happened because he was a Muslim, and the Muslims are believed to be terrorists. Police said that the student was carrying a briefcase into which he plugged the clock into an electrical outlet which started to make noise. It seemed like an act of terrorism by Ahmed.
After repeated investigation by the police, Ahamed failed to provide any suitable explanation to the police as to why he made such a thing. Therefore, he was arrested out of suspicion. A new thinking, invention and science gets humiliated in the name of law and order.
The boy’s arrest was sharply criticised with an outpouring of support by the US President Obama. The US President invited Ahmed to White House and inspired him to continue making such inventions in future. Obama called him inspiration for the future. He said, “Cool clock Ahmed. Want to bring it to White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”
Besides, facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg commented, “Having the skill and inspiration to built something new should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed. Ahmed if you ever want to come to my facebook, I’d love to meet you. Keep building.”
However, what the famous Bangladeshi poet and communist Taslima Nasreen said, shocked everyone. She tweeted, ” If I could see Ahmed Mohammed’s homemade clock, I would have mistaken this thing for a bomb. Why ppl think Muslims can bring bombs? Cause they do.”
After a series of hassles as well as support shown by the leaders all over the world, the Texas police have decided to withdraw charges made against the boy. This story talks about modern days’ law and order. While the true culprit roams about boldly in public, the talented and skilled ones and are being put behind the bars!
