From Morgan-frickin’-Freeman to John Mayer to Matthew McConaughey, almost 9 out of 10 popular celebrity personalities swear by weed, nowadays! They’ve all openly admitted to being pot smokers and have been actively speaking out against the American Marijuana laws.
And why shouldn’t they? One of the greatest pleasures in life is the feeling of being high. It’s like a time-out from everything that has been bogging you down, and if that wasn’t enough in itself, it makes everything else tremendously funny!
So the next time you roll up that doobie, park yourself in that bean bag and light up, maybe you could try watching some of these hilarious stoner movies, to make the experience even more epic!
I give you:
The top 11 stoner movies of all time!
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Without a doubt, THE most popular stoner movie of all time, it tells the story of Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, played brilliantly by Jeff Bridges, the ultimate laid-back stoner who just wants to chill the hell out. But the events start unfolding when he’s mistaken for the millionaire Jeffrey Lebowski by two thugs looking for the debt they’re owed.
Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004)
Another classic, this is one movie almost every stoner can relate to, and the best in the Harold & Kumar trilogy. Harold and Kumar take it to the next level when they get the craving for burgers from a place called White Castle after seeing an advertisement for it on TV. Their quest to get to White Castle involves facing a crazy racoon, a racist cop, an escaped cheetah, a group of aggressive jocks and a high as a kite Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser), who steals their car after they give him a ride!
This Is The end (2013)
This Is The End doesn’t just fall under stoner movies, it’s also an apocalyptic comedy plus a survival comedy rolled into one. From Emma Watson to Channing Tatum, a number of well-known actors play a parody of themselves, portraying their funniest and worst sides, when they’re faced with the doomsday. Having seen this with a friend when high myself, this one’s got my approval!
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982)
Sean Penn plays one of the most oft-remembered pothead protagonists, Jeff Spicoli in this film about high schoolers revelling in gratuitous amounts of sex and drugs. Although the movie made more news owing to Phoebe Cates’ famous nude scene, Penn is the real standout character despite playing a side role.
Cheech & Chong: Up in Smoke (1978)
The first in the Cheech & Chong series, this is the hilarious tale of Richard “Cheech” Marin and Tommy Chong, two stoners, who, after meeting each other by chance, go on a road trip to procure even more weed, driving a van made out of Marijuana, without even realising it. Running into hilarious misunderstandings and troubles with the law, mostly because they’re just extraordinarily high.
Dazed and Confused (1993)
A movie about a group of high school graduates and their last day at school, where everyone is either trying to get laid, drunk, stoned, or all three together, this movie is known mostly for Matthew McConaughey’s breakthrough role as David Wooderson, a creepy, but somehow, still weirdly charming, pothead.
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Hunter S. Thompson, this movie is not just about weed, it’s about every possible opiate and hallucinogen ever made, taken by Johnny Depp, who stars in the movie, while on his journey towards The American Dream.
Fritz the Cat (1972)
Adapted from the legendary Robert Crumb’s Fritz the Cat comic strip, Ralph Bakshi’s notorious animated feature film of the same name isn’t like any cartoon you’ve ever seen before. It’s about a hedonistic house cat who frequently engages in a plethora of orgies, apart from chilling with heroin-addicted rabbits and getting stoned out of his mind. Trippy, right?
Pineapple Express (2008)
This tells the tale of a stoner, Dale, played by Seth Rogen, and his dealer Saul Silver (James Franco) becoming accidental witnesses to a murder at the home of drug lord Ted Jones (Gary Cole). However, Dale leaves behind his joint while fleeing the scene, and the joint is from a strain of rare drug known as Pineapple Express, which leads the killers back to the dealer, Saul, bringing about a really hilarious turn of events, sure to make you split your sides.
And that brings us to the end of our list. Now go light that blunt up and get trippin’!
