Stephen Hawking, the Great was born on this day in 1942. I refer to him as Great because at the young age of 21 he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease or Lou Gehrig’s disease and the doctors gave him TWO years to live. Today, Stephen is 74.
Stephen believes, “We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.”
His wife, Jane’s book Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen was made into a feature film, The Theory of Everything in 2014 starring Eddie Redmayne as Stephen. Redmayne went on to win an Oscar while Stephen became known to the world for more than a theoretical physicist.
Hawking is known for his contribution to science and for his wit. We bring to you Pearls of Hawking’s wisdom – the best of Stephen Hawking quotes. And don’t forget to go till the end to find out what he said about the extinction of human race!
