After the accident on Yamuna Expressway in which Agra-based doctor Ramesh Nagar was killed and two children injured, the victim’s daughter Sandili alleged that the car belonged to Smriti Irani’s convoy, and her father died after it hit their motorbike.

16-year-old Sandili Nagar, daughter of the deceased, however, said that they were neither helped by the minister or by any senior official, and had someone called for help, her father might still have been alive.

We were going to attend a wedding ceremony. The speed of our motorcycle was very slow. Suddenly, Smriti Irani’s vehicle hit us and our motorcycle slipped. She came out of her car to see us. My father was lying injured on the road after the mishap. I asked her to help him but she denied. Had she helped us, my father could have been saved.”

Smriti’s office, however, was quick to quash all reports that the car which caused the accident belonged to the Minister’s convoy or had any association with it.

Eyewitness have since come forward claiming that Irani personally stepped down from her car to call for an ambulance.

One of the alleged witnesses, Manoj Kumar, took Smriti’s side of story and said,

Irani ji came out of her car and immediately made calls for Yamuna Expressway help after I explained her the situation. Within 10 minutes the ambulance was there.”

Sandili’s elder brother Abhishek, however, also denied that the Minister tried to help them, and sought action against the minister, demanding their grievances to be heard. He said,

We demand that action must be taken against her and our grievances must be heard. We are not from a rich family, we live on rent and my father was the sole earning member of our family.”

The police have registered a case against the yet unknown vehicle in connection with the incident under sections 279, 304 A, 337, 338 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code.
