Tensions have already been quite high between the 2 nuclear-armed nations, since the Pakistan-based militants were blamed by India for the January attack on the Indian air base, in which seven military personnel were killed. Pakistan’s foreign ministry, referring to a message conveyed to India’s ambassador, said,

(Pakistan) conveyed our protest and deep concern on the illegal entry into Pakistan by a RAW officer and his involvement in subversive activities in Balochistan and Karachi.

India’s foreign ministry spokesman, Vikas Swarup, stated that the matter had been taken up by Pakistan’s foreign secretary with the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad, however, he denied that the man is a spy.

The said individual has no link with the Government since his premature retirement from the Indian Navy. We have sought consular access to him. India has no interest in interfering in internal matters of any country and firmly believes that a stable and peaceful Pakistan is in the interest of all in the region.

Pakistan has on several occasions, accused India of supporting separatists in the resource-rich Balochistan province, as well as the militants fighting the state from the lawless tribal areas. It also blamed India for fueling strife in the volatile city of Karachi. India however, has denied any such interference and has similarly accused Pakistan, of backing militants fighting Indian security forces in its part of the divided Kashmir region, of assisting militants in launching attacks elsewhere in India and backing the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The 2 neighbouring countries have fought three major wars since 1947, two of them over Kashmir, which both lay claim to. Balochistan’s provincial interior minister, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, also stated that the arrest “proved Indian involvement” in his province. Last year, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had said that the RAW was determined to annihilate Pakistan.

RAW has been formed to undo Pakistan and to wipe Pakistan off the map.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been trying to improve ties with India ever since his election in 2013, however, his efforts have caused a lot of friction with the army, which sees relations with India as its own domain.
