So I’m heading out for office, today morning. I take out my phone, trying to book myself a cab. An Uber cab, specifically. But no matter how much I look, I can’t manage to find the app on my phone, although I remember having just used it a few days ago.
And here’s why: The logo had changed to a different, futuristic – bagel like thing.
With it’s recent rebranding and redesigning, the new Uber logo has everyone in a confused, irritated, frenzy. Gone is the familiar grey “U” on a black background, replaced by something that doesn’t seem to have any connection to the company name, at all.
Travis Kalanick, the CEO of Uber, actually had been working on the redesign himself, along with Uber’s design director Shalin Amin and a dozen or so others instead of hiring an outside designing agency. The idea behind the redesign and rebrand was in line with Uber‘s hopes to develop a more flexible, all-inclusive brand, that can grow with the company as it develops new products and attracts new customers.
All over the world, reactions to the redesign seemed to convey irritation, frustration, and ridicule, as twitterati took to expressing their views on the redesign:
