Benazir Bhutto was born in Karachi Pakistan on the 21st of June 1953. The meaning of her name is “One without equal”.
She was born unusually pink and, therefore, was known as Pinky among her friends.
She had had her education from Harvard University’s Radcliffe college from where she earned a cum laude degree in comparative government in 1973 and later from Oxford University where she was the first elected president of the Oxford Union.
Benazir Bhutto was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a former Prime Minister and the founder of Pakistan People’s Party. Benazir Bhutto was the first woman in modern times to head the Government of Islamic Nation.
On the 18th of December 1987, Benazir Bhutto got married to Asif Ali Zardari, the former President of Pakistan, who was later arrested for corruption charges.
The struggles that Benazir Bhutto faced in life starting from her father’s assassination to her arrest, has been referred to in the autobiography Daughter of Destiny.
The role model of Benazir Bhutto had been Margaret Thatcher, the former Prime Minister of Britain and the Iron Lady at the same time.
On 27th December 2007, Bhutto was assassinated in Rawalpindi, the same city where her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was killed. Bhutto had been campaigning for the elections of 2008 when shots were fired at her at Liaquat National Bagh followed by a suicidal bomb. She was declared dead at 18:16 local time!
