The recent outrage and hate received by Bollywood star Aamir Khan, because of his “anti-nationalistic” comments about rising “intolerance” in India, is still quite fresh in everyone’s minds. His comments had evoked sharp criticism from the BJP and NDA government, and a website was even set up where anyone could slap the actor. Apart from that, his contract as the brand ambassador for the Government’s Incredible India campaign was also not renewed by the Tourism Ministry.

However, on Saturday, 13th February, Khan, along with Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut was invited to a private dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Turf Club in Mumbai. Apart from them, top politicians and diplomats from several countries and several industry leaders were also part of the event. A strictly no-media affair, the dinner had been organised after the Make in India (MII) week was launched by Prime Minister Modi.   Aamir PM Modi dinner date

In other, unrelated news, the BJP government in Maharashtra has seemingly decided to appoint Aamir Khan as the brand ambassador of the Jalyukta Shivar scheme of the state government. Sources say that the superstar is likely to be the ambassador of “drought-free Maharashtra” and would be promoting a flagship scheme of the state government to tap and create water resources in several villages of Maharashtra. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Khan are expected to be addressing a joint press conference today at 5 pm making the formal announcements. Officials said that they had been in talks with Khan since May last year about the endorsement, and Khan had also contributed Rs 11 lakh to the chief minister’s relief fund as a donation to the scheme in 2015.

However, another actor who was in the news recently for helping the drought-stricken farmers of Marathwada in Maharashtra was Nana Patekar. Many regions of Maharashtra are currently facing a drought-like situation due to a lack of rain which has adversely affected the farmers. Several of them have even committed suicide. To remedy this, the veteran actor had set up the Naam Foundation, for providing aid and help to the farmers, which had already collected Rs.80 lakh in a single day. Patekar, along with actor Makrand Anaspure recently distributed financial help to 113 families in Latur and Osmanabad.   Aamir Khan PM Modi have dinner

In light of this, we wonder what prompted the Maharashtra Government to appoint Mr Khan as the Brand Ambassador, instead of Mr Patekar. Were there some sudden decisions and changes decided upon, at the private dinner that Aamir attended? If so, how did the ruling BJP party so suddenly patch up its differences with the actor and mend fences? In response to this question being raised by his fans on Twitter, Patekar said, “Let Aamir be the face of this programme. This doesn’t really affect me for I will continue to do my job. Tell me, do you need a title to do good work? No right? So it really doesn’t matter if Aamir becomes the official face.” Aamir PM Modi dinner date

Well, we couldn’t agree with you more, Mr Patekar! This statement says a lot about the person behind the on-screen persona of the actor. If only the rest of us could also always look at the larger picture, instead of bickering and squabbling over these petty matters!
